The brand「 meirodo 」was created to introduce tea incense in a form that feels clear, considered, and contemporary.
Rooted in the worlds of tea and pottery, it brings them together in a new shape.
How it works
Tea incense refers to our specialty tea leaf blends developed for fragrance use.
The tea leaves are set on a tea incense burner over a low flame, warmed until they slowly release their scent.
The effect is gentle and gradual: less an immediate diffusion than a quiet unfolding.
Why tea leaves
Taste and smell are never entirely separate. Much of what we experience as flavour begins as aroma.
The smell of tea leaves are what makes them distinctive. Their character changes with origin, processing, and heat: at times grassy, toasted, smoky, dry, or deep.
The tea incense burner, or chakoro, was developed to make fuller use of that aromatic quality, allowing tea leaves to release their fragrance gradually over a low flame.
Koro
The scent of tea leaves are naturally gentle. To bring out the fullest aroma from our tea incense, we created the Koro.
The wide plate increases surface area for tea leaves, and a slightly lower base introduces the right amount of heat to the leaves.
Made in ceramic in Seto, Aichi, it quiet form, and considered proportions make it live naturally in the room.
